Sleep Prescriptions are sometime necessary to treat severe sleep disorders. Medication prescribed for sleep disorders should only be taken at bedtime, prior to sleeping. Taking sleep medications during inappropriate times can lead to
serious injury.

The following is a list of drugs used to treat sleep disorders:

  • Ambien, used to treat insomnia
  • Ambien CR, used to treat insomnia
  • Lunesta, used to treat insomnia
  • Rozerem, used to treat insomnia
  • Prosom, used to treat insomnia and parasomnias
  • Restoril, used to treat insomnia and parasomnias
  • Oxycodone, used to treat restless leg syndrome
  • Codeine, used to treat restless leg syndrome
  • Xanax, used to treat insomnia and parasomnias
  • Ativan, used to treat insomnia and parasomnias
  • Xyrem, used to treat excessive daytime sleepiness and narcolepsy
  • Trazodone (an antidepressant), used to treat excessive daytime sleepiness
